History

The history of BioCitrus begins in the city of Messina in Sicily in 1873, the fragrant cradle of the citrus industry.

Over 140 years of history.

At that time, the art of extracting essential oils was performed manually with the use of a tool known as “Rastrello” as well as a marine sponge. This technique was called “Sfumare”, literally taking the “fumes” (essence) out of the fruit. The term has the same Latin roots of the word “per fumum” which became “perfume” overtime.

Exactly 100 years later, BioCitrus was established in the town of Montenegro, state of Rio Grande do Sul at Rua João Pessoa. Globally known for its solid family tradition, BioCitrus is the reference in a wide range of citrus specialities in Brazil and in the world. Focusing on the production of high-quality essential oils, BioCitrus mixes traditional methods of extraction and know-how with modern technology in its state-of-art facilities.
